Browsing the Googles showed that 5 of the 7stanes mountain bike trail centres were accessible from my route with only the slightest detour.
So I set of a little earlier than needed, packed a little bit more than needed, including my bike and associated accoutrements and planned a stop off at Mabie.
The reasons for picking Mabie were twofold. 1. It was the nearest to home, and therefore maximised my chances of there being some daylight left when I got there and 2. The website said the cafe would be open, which is of maximum importance.

I'm not used to this type of trail centre riding, but it was fun, the place was near deserted, the skies were big and blue and i dragged by bike around some woodland singletrack, what's not to like?
I proved to myself yet again that the slightest drop off, rooty or rocky bit can have me squealing to a halt, but that didn't matter today, it was all about getting 2 hours of riding in, in a day that would otherwise have been spent sitting in the car.
So in my book I'm chalking it up as a win.
